If stains persist, rub with a cloth dampened with a mixture of vinegar and ammonia. In case of black stains, soak the silver for 15 minutes in a mixture of hot water and vinegar. If the silver tarnishes, immerse the jewelry for a few minutes in a solution of coarse salt and hot water in an aluminum-lined bowl, then dry with a soft cloth.
